January 2017 Newsletter: Week One

Session Has Begun!!!

Some important bills I am working on:

Firefighters Disability Retirement Benefit Amendments

SB18: This bill redefines the word “disability” in the context of firefighters. It will be easier for injured firefighters to get the benefits they need and deserve with this bill in place.

Utah Student Privacy Act

SB102: This bill tightens the privacy of students K-12. Every student has a personal folder that is passed from teacher to teacher each year. Because personal information is often stored in these documents, SB102 will require schools to keep a strict list of people they will allow to see it. The risk of sensitive information leaking will diminish.

Joint Resolution Encouraging the Employment of Utah Workers for Airport Redevelopment Efforts

SJR2: It is important to me that we hire as many Utahns as possible to work on our local projects. This joint resolution will help us create more jobs for our citizens.
